The best airline ever
For another year, Qantas made the top of the list. So is Qantas the best airline ever? Well, according to the pros, Qantas has a 100-year history of operating aircraft and leads the pack with a record of safety. Additionally, Qantas is considered the industry's most experienced airline.
Much of the top 10 includes international airlines, with domestic US airlines largely absent until the lower 20. The list analyzes hundreds of airlines, so making the top 20 is still an important indicator the airline is focused on safety and passenger experience.

How the list is compiled
Airlineratings.com takes into account several factors to compile the list. The team factors in crashes across a 5-year period, serious incidents in the past two years, age of the airplane fleet, pilot training, audits from aviation's governing bodies, and now COVID protocol adherence.
The team analyzes data for 385 airlines to determine which airlines make the top 20 list and stand out for safety and operational excellence.
“Our top 20 safest airlines 2023 are always at the forefront of safety innovation, operational excellence, and the launching of new more advanced aircraft like the Airbus A350 (above) and Boeing 787," said Geoffrey Thomas, editor-in-chief of airlineratings.com.
